Some explanation of Podcasts & RSS feeds

Podcasts are simply audio files available for download using the Internet. Podcasts generally can segment a particular topic, allowing the listener to select just the segment they want to hear. When podcasts include an RSS feed, a listener can have an automated program on their computer let them know when something new of interest is added to the downloadable selections.

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. This is just a standard way to communicate the content available through such a feed.

Many computer programs can ‘understand’ an RSS feed. For example, browsers like Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox will handle the feed. There are many programs know as news readers or RSS readers that you can use as well. Many of these programs, including Apple’s iTunes will work with your MP3 player (iPods) to automatically download new segments and copy them to your MP3 device when next connected.
